Hubei

Hubei has a long history and magnificent culture. Painted pottery from the Neolithic period exists at Qujialing of Jingshan county. It is known as the Qujialing culture. Five kilometers north of Jiangling County town lies the remains of Ji’nan, the capital of Chu. 

For almost four hundred years from 689 to 278 B.C, a total of twenty kings made Ji’nan their capital. It was not only the political, economic and cultural center of the state of Chu but also the largest city in the south part of the country. Sun Quan, King of Wu dynasty in the Three Kingdoms Period, built fortifications in Wuhan, then called Jiangxia. Hubei is a province since the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).

The economy of the province.

It is famous as the “land of fish and rice.” It has huge resources of minerals. This province is well known for its mines of fine turquoise and green faustite. GDP of this province ranks 7th in the country. This province is one of the major cultural centers of the country. It has the largest student population in the world.
