Tainan

Tainan

Tainan is a special municipality in Taiwan. It is surrounded by the Formosan Strait or Taiwan Strait in the west and south. This is the oldest city on the island of Taiwan. It is also called the “Capital City” for its history of over 200 years as the capital of Taiwan under Koxinga and later Qing dynasty. Tainan has a complex history of comebacks, redefinition, and renewals, thus being nicknamed as “the Phoenix City.” This city is on Taiwan’s southwest coast. It was the island’s capital from 1683–1887 under the Qing dynasty.
